This marks my first post in this community, and I am excited to receive insight from experienced individuals, as my educated guesses are nothing short of erroneous. To preface, I have a 1987 930, and it remains completely unmodified (stock).
I have recently decided to transition away from the factory **** and toward some new shoes, being 17x8 and 17x9 RUF Speedline's (see attachments for specificities and offset details). Ideally, I would like to fit a set of Toyo R888rs to my new purchase(s), as I have aspirations of upgrading the powertrain in the near future, particularly the factory gearbox and turbo subsequent to a complete rebuild. I intend to enjoy this 911, almost to the point of it being classified as a daily driver, and I have no intensions of tracking it for performance (at least not for the time being). Rubbing, should it be reasonable, wouldn't drive me to insanity, however I would refuse to roll the fenders in any circumstance. I lack the proper knowledge in determining an appropriate profile, and while I understand that there are innumerable factors to consider in this decision, I would greatly appreciate being advised in this preliminary stage.
If I could provide any additional information to aid in your suggestions and mitigate the overwhelming amount of vagueness, please let me know. I am naïve and hardly know where to begin on this journey. Thank you.
Toyo R888R is a very sticky/warm weather/dry weather/great for track type tire. It provides great traction when all conditions are correct, wears out really fast, leaves behind a black (rubber) dust all over your car. But it is horrible when cold and wet. So before you purchase these tires, make sure that it suits your application, etc.
what wheels/offset/tires do you currently have on your 930, and does it still have the oem rear spacer?
Abolfaz - You're most certainly making a valid point. I may consider installing these on a narrow body upon future acquisition. Although for the time being, I'd really like to run these Speedline's in place of the factory ****, which are horribly weathered and due for a refinishing.
Igooz - Currently the factory **** remain affixed, 7x16 in the front and 9x16 in the rear to specify. Mounted on the set are Bridgestone Potenza's; front profile: 205/55/R16 - 94Y; rear profile: 245/45/R16 - 94Y. And yes, the OE rear spacers are still set in place, and I plan to retain them following this "conversion."
I greatly appreciate the input! As with many, I want to vastly improve my 930s stance, and while these may not be the most optimal wheels for a Turbo, I seek to discover my limitations when shopping for wide profiles. Thank you to the both of you.
Oe fitment for a 930 was 7ET23.3 and 8ET10.6 or 9ET15
the 8ET30 and 9 ET17 should fit fine
the fronts sit out just .2" more and the rears sit in just .1" more
235/45 & 275/40 would work ok though they really want 9 & 12" wheels and are a little tall, shouldn't make much of a difference w/ turbo torque
can you post more photos of your car? I’d like to see how the larger tires you’re running look.
Here you go. My understanding is the RUF 10”rear and 9”front were the intended size for the wide body cars and the 9”x8” combo for NB cars. My 930 has had this RUF wheel/tire size setup since 1989. No rubbing (that’s usually the next question). I drive it. Good luck✌️

are you running any spacers with that set up?
The factory rear 28mm slide on spacer was replaced with an 18mm slide on spacer to accommodate the RUF 10” wheels. No spacers on front, just the stock hub setup. Factory suspension although adjusted to accommodate RUFs and the stance you see in the pictures.

My vintage RUF Speedline's, originally from Japan, have finally been married to my 1987 930; I must say, I am deeply satisfied with the aesthetics and the performance this setup offers. Despite the aggregate opinion that the Toyo R888Rs are unsuitable and impractical for daily use, I was far too tempted to purchase them based off of the reviews many of my close friends have given. The profiles I selected are 255/40/17 (front) and 275/40/17 (rear), and rubbing issues haven't been detected in the slightest. I understand that these 17x8 and 17x9 variants are better equipped for a narrow body, however I believe the end result speaks for itself. Additionally, this diameter increase from the original F-U-K-s (I had to insert dashes as this platform will censor my text otherwise) hasn't amounted to any noticeable drop in power delivery. I want to thank those of you that provided feedback and examples of your own configurations. Thank you.
