Default Chain noise (PPI) question?? HELP!!

I just had a PPI performed on a late 78 930 and want to post this item to the board for thoughts and wisdom:

"Engine has excessive chain noise that can be heard particularly loud at 2,400 RPM. My guess is that it needs new tensioners and rails, maybe chains."

Thoughts on this item??? - Is it a deal breaker??? How much is this item worth from a negotiation perspective????

It must be done and done immediately. If the chain slips, the valve train is history.

Installation of chain tensioners and rails is not difficult. I don't know what a new chain costs. Why not ask the shop that did the PPI what it would cost?

Its a pretty expensive change over. The tensioners and chains will cost you about $500-600 and the larbor is as much as a major service. My guess it will cost you at least $1500-2000. Talk to the guy who performed the PPI, I would be scared of valve damage and thats a deal breaker. New valvetrain is $5K.
