Sure looks nice, clean, snazzy interior, but then again, I'm prejudice when it comes to silver ....

never trust looks. if your that interested, do it in person, and get an independent PPI.

It looks unmolested which is nice. That could be a factory ordered interior as it is tastefully done. The real question is how much they want for it. I would say that under 30K would be a great deal if it looks as clean in person.

I bounced them an inquiry and they want $35K for that car. Said it's in "perfect condition" with all the records. On the plus side they did respond to my email rather quickly.

For 35K, it would really have to be perfect! That's alot of miles for that price and you are in '89 turbo territory for the same mileage and condition these days. That being said, when buying these kinds of specialty cars there is a fairly limited supply and I am always prepared to pay a little more if the car is "what I want" and has a good PPI. Good luck on the search Jerry!

Looks like that same place has this 88 930 in their "offsite" inventory. Red/black with 61K miles.

that red one has a 915 box on it, I wonder if they think it's worth more or less than the silver one

I'd say they're going to ask more for it. One of the pics for that car is a list of upgrades with prices.

Hey - I was right. They are asking $40K for the red car. They seem to be very responsive to emails so far - kinda unusual for a car dealer.

$40K for a '88 turbo with 61K miles? That is at least $10K too much and probably $15K overpriced. Really, for $40K you can buy a very nice 91-92 964 Turbo with lower miles.

I think the silver one is also overpriced, but if you just have to have that color combination (which is very nice), add another $5K. $27-$29K seems right. Any dealer that says a car is perfect should back that statement up with a warranty.

I think $27K is a little low. More like $30-33K depending on condition and buyer. Especially if the car is as tight as a drum and nary visual wear and tear. Maybe even a shade higher if its "the car" thats been unfound in your searches for a while. Thats all a big if though. Dont believe a written word in a car ad. Assume its all false and prove otherwise. Too tough to tell from just pictures. You have to determine if its worth it or not from your own eyes. $40K is high though anywhere in the country. The seller has ample room to show you some love yet.

Correct - Most turbos with this mileage are listed at $30-33K; some even a bit higher.

Now I don't know your budget, but you need to consider the possibility that a car that is 16-17 years old with that kind of mileage will have some added costs. While the 930 is a great car, it also has great potential to be a money pit. Unless the previous owners have done some of the common replacements/upgrades, the real price can escalate in a hurry.

We guard against nightmares using a PPI, but even so a buyer should always set aside another $3-5K for all the things that can fail within a few hundred miles of ownership: alternator, fuel pump, voltage reg., shocks, etc. Add to that the maintenance requirements of the first year and you begin to see it pays to bargain for the lowest possible price with the newest possible model.
