spark plug color

Default spark plug color

was doing a ck on my spark plugs to see how they are burning and cant find a picture on line of spark plugs to make a reference from. can anyone post a pic of a 930 plug to see color to compare to mind to see how i am burning. Or do you now a site i can find to see if i am running rich or lean. The blug is a brownish which i think is okay but just want to make sure. thanks john

a tan or golden color is optimum A/F ratio. Your brown color probably indicates your running rich and if your still running CIS you should be fine as cis tends to run rich untill you wring the motor out. my plugs have always been a dark brown after an easy drive and they look more tan after a trackday...just my .02, hope it helps

Hi:

I hope you did a proper plug cut to get a "snapshot" of the mixture in your engine.

If the engine idled at all, your plug color was not indicative of what goes on in there,...

I'll be happy to send you the procedures about how to perform an accurate plug cut if you e-mail me directly.

thanks steve, i just install a wide band sensor so i can monitor the a/f. under boost i am between 11.4 and 12.4 which i was told is good. what do you think

While that is good you need to remember you are taking the average of all 6 cylinders. If you know your fuel head, injectors and intake runners are all balanced then you should be good to go without having to do an engine cut. I haven't done that test myself but I don't think I need to since I got everything balanced and also use a wide band and countless dyno runs.

brent930, i had my fuel head rebuilt and reflowed by imagine auto. Stephen told me that they test every line out to make sure there are flowing the same
