I use the Bridgestone S03 they work great and they don't cost too much. If price is a concern I'm told the Kuhmo MX is a great value, but I never tried them. The new hot tire is the Michellin Pilot Sport 2 they are hard to find and expensive.

I have tried both SO3 and SO2 - both great tires - I prefer the SO2 for ride and handling.

I put SO2's on the 930, and SO2A's on the '02 911 Turbo, I like them alot for all-around use. There are stickier tires for the track, but not worth the tradeoff to me.

When I went to 18's on my 930, I shopped pretty hard. The Mich Pilot Sports seem to come out on top of almost every comparison I read. They also are significantly more expensive and don't last as long as some others - although, sticky tire = short life - it's the nature of the beast.

I went with the SO3's instead of the SO2 because they supposedly are better in the wet. Plus I like to go with new technology when I can.

It's mostly a city car but I just took it to Arkansas for a couple of days and was blown away by the grip! The ride and noise are really not that bad considering the 18's and Bilsein Sports...

I'll be getting SO3's for the 951 for track/street duty when the 17 inch wheels arrive. I think they'll do well in the dual role...

Well I am actually in this deleima myself. I am upgrading to new wheels and tires to go with the new go fast goodies. Lately I have had the thought of running an R compond tire since the car might see 5000 miles a year, and I do plan on some autox events and possibly a DE.
I am torn between using 17x8.5 front 17x11 rear, using 225x45-17/315x35-17 frnt/rear, or running 18x8.5 and 18x10.5 and 225x40-18/285(maybe 295) x30-18
And add to that either using S02A's or Pilot Sports if I run a street tire, or use Victoracers if I use 17 inch since they dont make victoracers in an 18, or use Pilot sport Cups or the cheaper Kuhmo 700.......arrrghhhhh confusion...someone make it stop
Actually not meaning to threadjack but I would value all input here.

thanks
Lane

Michelin Pilot Sports...best all around tire IMHO. I think I have tried most everything and when I have come back to Michelins I realise why...I have them on all my cars.

You pay a bit more...but worth it; longevity, grip, feedback, low road noise...etc...

I agree on the Pilot Sports but the RIB variety. The RIBS have replaced my previous So2's and Pirelli P Zero's. They are really a great tire... Also I have heard good comments on the Pilot Sports PS2 which according to reports are even better than the RIB's
I have S03's on my bimmer and while they are a good tire especially in the rain I do not feel that they are as crisp as the MXX3's they replaced. So I would not try them on my 911's.

Ás I could not get S02's anymore (no N-rated S03's?), I've gone from the truly excellent (both wet and dry) but noisy S02's to N4-rated Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. So far they are excellent in the dry, and much less noisy than the S02s.

I have heard, however, that the new Michelins Pilot Sport 2 are fantastic but have yet to try them first-hand.

Best regards

I just switched to Michelin Pilot Sport (1 not 2) and I think they are great. I use 255/35 18 front on 18x9 and 315/30 18 rear on 18x11. My car is pretty low in the front so I do rub slightly in the front on the wiper washer fluid bottle.

Try the Bridgestone RE 750. Its alot of bang for the buck. I got tired of spending the bucks for street tires that wear out so quikly. The RE 750's have a great rating from Tire Rack and their about $50 cheaper than SO3's and about half the price of Pilots.
