Why?????
Lately I have this funny experience that every moron wants to race with me when I drive my 930. 2 days ago a Subaru Forester was doing 120(!!!!) on a country road just so I couldn't pass him. What an idiot.
When I drive the GT2 nobody dares to race with me, but there is something about the 930. Maybe the body style???? Or the sound of the engine?
Any thoughts?

Three possibilities:
1. You are burning oil, noboby wants to follow a stinker.
2. Your license plate says RACE ME!
3. The other guys aren't really racing, they are late for dinner and have sex on their minds.
4. (optional) It's just your imaginantion.

1. Nope
2. Nope
3. Maybe
4. Nope
I have a friend in Florida who had similar experiences. He owns a 1985 Ferrari 308 and a late model 360 F-1. When he drives the 308 every hot rod wants to take him on, but when he cruises with the F1 nobody cares about it.
Classical design still has its magic...

I get the same thing...maybe its just that these individuals think they can finally out run a now "older" P car... ??? who knows... I think most people enjoy seeing an obviously older Porsche out on the road...a beautiful 930 is a treat to see...(but we knew all that...)

Re: Why?????
hahaha, i love the comment about the oil leak, because i used to get that from my friends, they would stay like a mile behind me or try their best to pass me, because of my oil leak.
But in ur case, i think people know that they will never be faster than ur GT2 so they show some respect, while in a 930, i know my friends uber sedans like the E55 can run circles around me, so they do their best fly bys on me. Theres lots of cars out there that are as fast as a 930 now, thats why u are seeing people running as fast as u.

Actually its the opposite for me. Every ******** in the city wants to show me what he has when Im in the WRX. I rarely get poked in the 930 and less so in the 951. Completely opposite though when I get gas. Everybody wants the pump next to me. Every time the pumps are full and Im pumping someone gets behind ME. I was on campus once at Univ. Dayton and parked up by the main entrance circle. My plates say UD Pride and when I got back like 10 students were next to it including one a-hole with his hand on my wail tail. They thought it was some university limo vehicle or something and crapped when they saw me in my cutoff shorts, who farted t-shirt, and flip flops get in and drive away.

I think It might have something to do with the Widebody.
Not many people outside the Porsche world know the difference between a GT2 a TT and a 996. To them they all look the same. Some with tails
some without.
I have the same problem with the 3.6. Everyone and their uncle want to race or just get ahead of you. From SUV to Minivan to civics.
I had a 79SC with a widebody, fully moded very fast. Same thing everyone wanted to race me. My stock SC, nothing. People could care less. The looks I get when in a widebody Porsche always amaze me. When I was in my SC or 928 who cared. I get more looks in my 914 then I did in my stock looking SC, which was a gorgeous car. Maybe I shouldn't be admitting that, but for a 914 she is very clean and pretty.
I don't think any other car out there has the timeless lines and stigma that is associated with the early turbo body. It held the top position for umpteen years as one of the fastest production cars around.
Maybe they just want to say "I raced a Porsche Turbo today".

Hmm - I think it may be what was said above - these cars are getting older and unless they are modified many modern sedans can keep up with them. One of the new Subaru Forrester wagons goes from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds - perhaps it was one of those and he was enjoying the fact that he was able to keep a 911 Turbo at bay. Here is a blurb on that Subaru: http://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84

I experienced the same thing with my 930. Most frightening was when an SUV would pass me doing 100 and I thought they wanted to race. Instead, I'd look over and it was some soccer mom on her cell phone paying no attention at all to how fast she was driving and the performance characteristics of an Expedition at 100. Very frightening.
