Default drive failure

Just ambling along at 50mph the other day when something gave, engine running normally ,no abnormal sounds but no drive to rear wheels at all. I coasted to a stop , there was the slightest amount of forward movement when popping the clutch very slowly,in 1st gear. (still no noises.)What is it you clever technical lads. I have a 1989 ,911 ,930 turbo LE .40,000mls.
Im in the uk.
towed car back home.

My first guess would be clutch plate failure.
Engine runs fine? No gearbox oil leaks?
Can you roll the car when its in gear? Any popping/grinding in the gearbox?
If you don't have any of these symptoms, I would guess the clutch plate (fairly easy fix) or maybe a gearbox input shaft failure (not so easy).
Let us know...

If you have not already updated to the spring hub - it is most likely the rubber sprung centre of the pressure plate that has failed. There is a safety if the rubber tears which allows the centre to still function but will get a cluncking noise when you go on and off throttle. The car can still be driven in this mode for awhile but plan on changing it one day.
