Default Torsion bar choices

I have the big iron in my car now and am thinking of going a little softer, mostly so I can get my wife back in the car.

Here is my current setup, I would like to keep everything but the bars.

Bilstein Sports
Racers Group Sway Bars 22/25
Hollow Torsion Bars 23/33

So... what about putting my stock torsion bars back in? Other ideas?

Thanks,

John

Hey John:

OMG,.....No wonder your "spousal unit" won't ride with you,...

Thats a sweet track setup but too much for the road, IMHO.

I would:

Bilstein HD inserts in front
22/30 or 22/31 T-Bars (I use the Sander Engineering ones only)

Soften the settings on the swaybars and you're done.

Thanks for info Steve

Can i use my Sports up front? Or is that way too much damping for 22's?
Hate to change those yet again.

Do you think there is any value in my t-bar take-off's (they are hollow sander)? Just a couple of years old if you remember setting me up.

John

BTW: What is stock?

You can certainly use your front Sport shocks, but since their compression valving is much stiffer than the HD's, this really transmits more road shocks and impacts into your hands and cabin.

For a better balance of handling and ride, I prefer the HD's up front as they really do ride nicer.

Your current 23/33 T-bars will bring you cash money as there are plenty of folks with dedicated track and race cars that will appreciate those things. I'd put them on Rennlist Classified and Pelican Classifieds.

Stock is 19mm and 26mm

John,

I've been thinking of moving up from 31's to 33's on the rear.

I'm currently hollow 23/31 from Sander Engineering.

Whats your time frame on this?

Steve,

Do I need a corner balance and an alignment if I just swap the rears? I will probably go ahead with the fronts a few weeks later and can then do all that.

Also, I have my original HD struts from the front. Is there anyway to check and see if they are servicable?

Thanks,

John

Hi John:

Yessir, you do. Anytime you change ride height or spring rates, you'll need correct corner-weights and alignment.

About your front struts,...Do you have any idea how many miles are on them?

As long as the struts themselves do not have worn spindles or inner tube bearings, they should be fine. If the HD inserts have more than 50K miles on them, I'd spring for new ones to better match the 22mm front T-bars you'll have.

BTW, thanx for that big thick file. Its now in very good safekeeping in a fire-proof cabinet.

The old HD's have 35k miles on them. Can they be checked on a machine?

NP on the files. Lots of stuff in there. Good read for you apprentice mechs I suppose.

Those shocks can be sent to Bilstein and they will check them on the shock dyno and compare damping to "new" spec.

I'll start reading through that big file while I'm in my "office",....

Steve,

What would your suggestion be for an 89 Turbo Cab?

Right now I am thinking of TRG sway bars (not sure what size?), Bilstein Sports all around and 22mm front/30mm rear T-bars.

Car is used mostly on street with quarterly DEs. I want the car to be tighter in the twisty Georgia roads, but not so much that it beats my kidneys into submission.

Thanks,

C.H.

Hi Chris:

We've done a bunch of Turbo cabs and we used this stuff for street and light DE usage:

1) Sander Engineering 22mm/30mm T-bars

2) Smart Racing 23mm or TRG 22mm swaybars

3) Bilstein HD fronts and Sport rears

4) A good front strut brace

This makes a real good handling car with adjustments for handling balance and still preserves good ride qualities.

Friends,

Pardon my ignorance but are anti-roll bars and sway bars the same thing?

Sameer

Yes, same thing. Difference between Euro and US terminology.
