Was the 911 Turbo ever badged 930 in the US?

As I understand it, the 78-79 turbo was known as the 930 - if you check the VIN schema, the first 3 digits were "930". The car never had "930" as a rear lid badge. It read "turbo".
The 1976 turbo was known as the "Turbo Carrera", and its VIN started "930" as well.
After the 1979 model year Porsche withdrew from the US market. In 1986 it returned. To "honor" (or better said, not **** off) those who purchased a 930 in the 1970's, Porsche decided against calling the '86-'89 turbos "930". Rather, Porsche named these "911 Turbo".
I owned an '89 911 Turbo but I always called it a "930" - I liked the way it sounded! The '86-'89 911 turbos had rear lid badging that read "turbo".
Cheers.

Our cars are 930 like the newer ones are 993 or 996. It is a model designation. All literature referred to them as 911 Turbos. I believe the early "Turbo Carreras' were also referred to by the factory as 911 Turbos, it was the US dealers that added "Carrera" to the decklid after the "Turbo" script.

Hi, I'm aware that 930 was simply Porsche's internal designation. However, I've heard it said that some US-bound cars, such as the slant-nose, were badged 930. Maybe not then?
