Default Gary Fairbanks Transmission rebuilding

Gang:

Has anyone ever dealt with Gary Fairbanks? The guy that always advertises in Panorama for transmission rebuilds?

If so, how was your experience with him?

Just curious, I see his ads all the time, and wondered how good his work was.

Brian, when I was in the market for a ring and pinion Stephen from Imagine said he is one of the best. Though my situation was different and got lucky that a place near by could do the job well even though Stephen didn't recommend it. The owner of this place knew Gary very well for many years and they both think they each do a great job. You should feel confident in having Gary do your work.

Well, I'm not necessarily looking to have work done, but was simply curious regarding his ability and reliability level.

I see his ads all the time and was simply curious.

Thanks for the info.

Gary is truly with the program. I would give him a shot and not think twice about it.

Any idea what he charges to fix sychros in a 4 spd 930 trans? I realize it will vary according to what is found once the trans is apart. My local 930 mechanic quoted a starting price of $3,000 and up, including labor.

You can't fix synchros, but only replace them. Cost should be half what your mechanic said if only synchros are replaced. Still $1500 is alot of money for any work on a trans. but when your talking Porsche tranny's that is a drop in the bucket.
