Default How much is an 89 930 Cab worth

Can someone tell me what "this market" will pay for an 89 930 Cab in excellent condition (pending ppi) with 14K miles?

I've checked www.porsche-classified.com and the average of all 89 930 Cabs advertised is some where near $41000 with 27K miles. Now this is based on the asking price and I have no knowledge of what the actual selling price is.

I also checked www.911turbo.com and their price guide (Bruce Andersons list) for 89 930's ends at calendar year 2000 with a price of $50,500 for a "like" car.

So all you 89 930 Cab Owners or wanna be's . . . what did/would you pay?

My reason for asking is I have one that I'm interested in and am starting to negotiate price.

Much appreciation for your attention . . .

Tom

Tom, I'm a believer that ORIGINAL, un-modified, truly "excellent" and "concours" quality cars are definitely worth a premium, even in this soft market. I'd say with that low mileage, in a popular color combination, is a $45k car on Long Island. California may be a different story as the prices in the Northeast seem to be a bit higher. If the PPI checks out and the car's as clean as advertised, go for it.

Hi OVRSTR,

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you on the ORIGINAL issue. I would not consider a car like this that was anything less. Popular colors is another thought . . . this car is Slate Gray with Burgundy interior/top. The Burgundy actually works well with the Grey. But then, I also own a Aventurine Green/Cashmere C4S which is certainly not the "norm" for Popular colors, but it is "easy on the eyes" . . . really.

Tom, I think that the colors described would be a gorgeous combo but as far as maximum resale is concerned, I believe black is strongest, followed by red. However, if you plan on keeping it or love the colors...who cares! That combo sounds great. Are the Fuchs' black or body color?

The Fuch's are black with a polished lip. I'm in Round 2 of negotiation's . . . and I think we are close. I know this is "nuts" to negotiate over price without seeing the car in person, but it's all contingent on the condition of the car being in Excellent Original condition and no PPI issues.

I will end up making a trip to see the car before handing over the $$$.

If it wasn't winter time . . . I'd consider driving the car back (2000+ miles).

Tom: For what it's worth, at 14K miles, you'll want to see when the last "major" service was performed (valve adjustment, etc.) The service interval for that work is 15K miles. If a "major" hasn't been performed at all, you'll want to include the price of one in your negotiations.

As for the PPI, the '89 is now 15 model years old. A couple of years ago, during a "major" on my '89 930 3.4, I had a lot of hoses, belts, and pulleys replaced - not because of abuse, but because of, plainly, age. Make sure your PPI thoroughly checks these.

Also, make sure the rotors are in really good shape. They are not cheap to replace.

For what it's worth, Paternie's "Red Book" says there were 2,564 turbos manufactured in 1989 - 844 were cabs (600 / 844 for the US market). So there is an element of "rareness" when purchasing an '89 930 cab that can be factored into your price (meaning: worth a bit of a premium).

Let us know how the PPI goes and what you ultimately decide.

Dan
