It's a funny thing because it was the dealerships who tried to make it into something bad. Like Porsche was making poor quality cars for sale in Europe and US versions were best? Often the Row spec was higher horsepower and better performing. They just didn't have 5mph bumper shocks.
When it got crazy was during the years the 930 wasn't sold here. People really wanted those cars and some wacky things were done to get cars into the country.
Today any car should just be assessed on current condition. Origins no longer matter if the car is nice and the title clear.

The 'C' in the 911 red book is the placeholder for the 'Checksum' digit (hence the use of 'C')

Hello Millhaus88, your 911 is beautiful. It seems I may be in a similar situation as you were. I have a 1989 911 Turbo (930) Cab. that I purchased in 1996 from an private dealer in Florida. I transported the car back to my home state of New Jersey. When I went to register the car I also had a VIN problem but after inspecting the VIN they issued a NJ Title. All was good until I moved to SC in 2016. Again the same issue and again after inspecting the VIN on the car they issued a SC Title. In 2019 I realized I had a real problem when I tried to get a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from Porsche. They told me me that the VIN number was not recognized by Porsche.
The VIN on the door jam, window post, the chassis plate in the trunk and the body color plate all match, but still Porsche does not recognize the vehicle. I was told by Classic Porsche that there is a 7 digit number under the knee pad that is an internal production number. I have been unsuccessful in locating that number. Sorry for the long winded history but I wanted to give as much info. as possible. Any ideas or suggestions on how I might proceed would be greatly appreciated. Cat photo in profile.
