Red face 3.2 puffing smoke

my 87 3.2 911 puffs smoke when starting after a few days of sitting. It goes away after that and the car has solid compression. It has 100 thousand kilometers on it and a mechanic said the valve guides are extremelly worn. can anyone give me some input and tell me if there is an easy fix without droppong the engine ? is it easy to replace the guides on the bottom of the engine?

Thank You

Umberto

This sounds normal for a 911. As long as it's only on startup and goes away after that, I wouldn't worry about it. If your mechanic did a leakdown test, that would confirm if your valve guides are worn (he would hear the air leaking). Replacing the valve guides requires dropping the engine. You're looking at maybe 30 hours of labor plus parts and machining costs.

That is normal for my 911. I use about 1l of 20/50 every 600-1000 miles. Mine always puffs at startup after sitting more than about 4 days.
