1978cs is the paint lacqer or enamal???

Post 1978cs is the paint lacqer or enamal???

Does it matter if I use a lacquer or a enamal??

I believe the original paint is an enamel. You may use a laquer with the appropriate sealers. Go to BASF's website and find the section on auto finishes (You'll find Glasurit and RM brand paints). In there, there is a phone number for technical assistance in Southfield MI. They will give you the closest Glasurit dealer to where you are. That dealer can give you all the info you can use to get going. They have technical sheets for each type of paint/primer and what to do to prep for painting. Note the original paint had lead in it and that was phased out about two years ago due to EPA requirements.

If you do use laquer just follow that manufacturers instructions as to what to use to seal the existing paint.

You may find that the baked on original paint may be painted over directly with laquer. I am not knowledgeable enough to state for certain.
