Default Converting 3.0 engine to modern fuel injection

I'm considering getting into a project to install a modern injection system with custom electronics to a 911SC 3.0 engine. The goal is to create a light and fun car with about 250 hp at around 7000 rpm to enjoy it both on mountain roads and on the race track.

The base engine would be a euro-spec 930/10 engine (204 hp, 9.8:1 compression ratio.)

In principle I would keep the original pistons and cylinders but I would:

- Remove K-Jetronic injection, distributor, etc.
- Install individual throttle bodies.
- New injectors and fuel pump.
- Three coils.

What are your general thoughts on the project? Could you point me in the direction of any resource or old thread that could be relevant?

Many thanks!

I don't think you're going to get 250HP using the base engine, but if you want replace the CIS, it seems the MegaSquirt system is pretty popular. I've bookmarked this thread in case I end up going this route myself: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...s-efi-kit.html

The thread was started in 2003, but it is 11 pages long and still current. The original developer is still participating and selling the system.

There are a few companies that do this. Rothsport Info is the link I have provided here. They have some very interesting products.

Thanks for the very interesting links guys.

On the mechanical side I will go for more aggressive cams and exhaust but, at least initially, I would like to keep the stock pistons and cylinders.

By "three coils" I meant a more modern ignition setup with one coil per pair of cylinders.

Regarding the particular brand of the EFI system I still have not made my choice. Motec is definitely an option but I need to understand better the features of each system and talk with experienced people regarding which systems have the most friendly software and so on.

may not be possible to use more aggressive cams but keep the stock pistons

that's why CIS motors are spendy to hot rod

I'm also exploring upgrading from CIS to a modern system for two reasons both based in reliability. The fuel pressure accumulator in the CIS system does not like sitting in hot weather AND the CIS system was designed way before ethanol gas.

As for my engine already has SSI Exhaust and a custom built 3.2 ( stroked not bored) built off a euro 3.0

Interested in what people come up with

On my 3,2 just switching to modern Bosch 4 spittle injectors from the OE single spittle transformed the drivability of my car. Much more user friendly. Throttle used to be on or off. Now you can comfortably hold the RPM's anywhere you'd like and it responds to change instantly. The finer mist fires at the tap of the key. New engine....new horsepower.

The 3.2 SS is a great engine.

Would you mind clarifying why? Is it because of piston/valve interference?

Was the rest of your engine stock before switching to the new injectors? I have never heard about the 3.2 engine having an on/off behaviour.

3.2 SS? Is this a 3.0 with larger diameter pistons?
