Meh, I don't think it would sell in bunches. Lighten it, drop it on an X73-like suspension, put a real 6 speed in it, call it the 911 LT and then you might sell a bunch. But Porsche won't do that because it would cannibalize its higher margin versions.

Not much different than the recent sticker kit cars. Base 911 with the gold package and wood wheel? Really, that best commemorates the 1 millionth 911?
I believe it's an S with black calipers.

you're correct, it is. Don't know why people are saying otherwise. From the release on Porsche's page :

"911 Carrera S with power-boosted engine

When it comes to technology, the anniversary model represents the leading position of this best-selling sports car. Outstanding product features and quality guarantee that the almost proverbial customer satisfaction will apply to the new generation too. At the heart of the 911 Carrera S is a three-litre flat engine with turbocharging. With the performance kit installed, the engine now achieves 331 kW (450 hp). The package includes such features as larger turbochargers, the Sport Chrono package including dynamic engine mountings, a modified brake cooling system and the sports exhaust system with two central tailpipes in a unique design. This allows the 911 Carrera S to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 312 km/h. The combined fuel consumption is 9.4 l/100 km."

Default Why it's green

Not surprised that it's a shade of green given the fondness of Porsche family members for this color, although I would have guessed Brewster.

i recall old pics of Dr Porsche in a green 911 or 912 in past Christophorus mags about 40 years ago. I'll look this weekend. Same with 928 wagon that was custom made for Dr. Porsche's birthday...resembles new Panamera shootiing brake.

Sometimes I feel totally out of touch with design choices on these cars. I don't get the look - is there a reason why the handles and mirrors are silver? Just looks weird.

I do like the green.

Its an homage to the first 911's. Although I would have rather seen actual chrome mirror covers, door handles and grille bars instead of the silver painted ones. I like that the mahogany has a "matte patina" as opposed to the shiny stuff on the production cars. Of course I love the pepita seats. It's also nice to see the museum is tired of red brake calipers too. I like it, tasteful and classy.
