Hi All,

I'm FINALLY going to be joining your ranks in the next few weeks, if I can find the right car of course. I'm currently looking at either a 3.0 SC or a 3.2 Carrera, and I'm leaning towards the latter.

I know a lot of 911s have had engine swaps so I'm trying to determine if this car, a 1985 3.2 Carrera, still has its original motor. I know the VIN and engine numbers are totally different and the only way to check is to view a factory record - my question is how do I verify this and how important is it?

I've Googled for Porsche VIN checkers and it's mostly dead links and spam. The VIN of this car is WP0ZZZ91ZES109699 if that helps. I have the engine number too if needed.

Get a PPI and find out the engine status, assuming the car looks good. Very few of these are going to be collectibles. A good engine trumps a matching numbers engine.

That looks to be accurate and not spam.

It is a Model year 1984 Rest-Of-World (not-US) 911 made in Stuttgart, serial number 09699.

I think that's what you get from _directly_ decoding the VIN. Looking up the serial number in a database will get you more info on options, etc.

But the information there will at least let you know if you're buying a 1984 advertised as a 1985.
