Default 1975 2.7 general tune up questions

hi everyone,

i just bought this 1975 recently, i dont know much about it but would like to start with some basic tune up.

the main issue of the car right now is that it barely takes on any gas, i have to let the clutch go fast in order for it to not die.

i wanted to start with sparkplugs, what is the recommend spark plug for this engine type ?

what type of engine oil, i live in a country with year tru 25 to 35 degrees, so it never really gets cold.

the spark cables, i just purchased these and wanted to check if someone of you guys has any expercience with them.
Porsche 911 1974 1975-1989 930 1978-1979 Spark Plug Wire Set Beru 91160905010

find below two nice videos, cold start and driving it, nice sound

and the engine alone running

i also just ordered the gasket kit for the engine, but cant find the overhaul kit for the carbs, i dont even know exactly what brand / type my carbs are, any idea or where to look for an ID ?

thanks a lot for any help !!

As the car has been modified I might not be much help. The stock US delivered CIS equiped and camed 75 911S has a current Bosch number of WD5DPO. For the US based cars I don't think there was a difference in the Carrera. My best suggestion would be pull a plug and see what's in it.

since the engine is running so bad, and everything that has been done to it is basically wrong, i wouldnt want to trust anything that has been put into it.

the car itself seems to be german version since there are no miles on the speedmeter, but the engine may have been replaced so no idea.

any clue on the spark cables and engine oil to use ?

Hi,

I see Zenith carbs in use so you should look for overhaul kits for those things.

Use Bosch plug wires on that engine as they are readily available and will do the job.

Use a good grade of 20w-50 engine oil. I do not know where you live so I am unable to offer anything more specific.

I wouldn't beat yourself up to bad regarding the modifications. Who ever did it was neat if nothing else. Might want to take a look under the car at the exhaust system. If it has been changed to a two outlet system into a dual inlet muffler you may have something else here. A performance upgrade from 20 years ago changed the exhaust system to a dual outlet similar to the 74 2.7 engines, changed pistons, cams and ported the heads. These changes couldn't be effectively fed by the Bosch CIS injection so carburetors where used. I gather from reading that Webers where the choice at the time here in the US.

I NORMALLY always use mobile 1 full synthetic on all my cars, i would assume these engines dont run on synthetic ?

checkout my muffler system, you guys may get a good lough out of it..
and yes i haven't cleaned the car underneath, im currently building a carport for it, so dont plan on doing much before that.

any recommendations on a replacement muffler system, i do not want it to be too loud.

you should be able to get a complete exhaust stock system pretty cheap. Guys take them off all the time to upgrade.
The problem will be getting the nuts off your existing system without breaking off exhaust studs. I would go to pelican.com and read up on their forums.

synthetic would be fine if it had adequate ZDDP

Shell Rotella, VR-1 etc. can all work fine for the mixes that have enough ZDDP

I use Brad Penn

see if you can find a set of SSIs and a stock muffler design for an early car - Dansk makes one but some claim it is thinner metal

it would be nice to find out if you have stock CIS cams...

I use VR1 dino in my 75. The SSI"s mentioned are an aftermarket version of the 1974 Porsche exhaust system. They give you a balanced dual outlet heat exchanger that mates to a dual inlet single exhaust muffler. As noted be careful removing the old exhaust. Heat the nuts cheery red before turning them off. Don't ask how I know this.

I forgot to mention this but you can get SSI's today from Pelican Parts and maybe others.

wow a car with Thermal reactors in 2017. They're still out there.

I've got a stock 75 heat exchangers with Bursch thermal reactor delete headers and a bursch muffler for 500 plus shipping if you want. I'm located in Las Vegas.
