Default What muffler do you reco?

As many of you know my targa was rear ended by a lady talking on her cell phone. I have already ordered the duck tail and I am thinking about some performance mods. What mufflers are you guys running or which do you recommend? I need the heat so I am keeping the heat exchangers. I am trying to keep a fairly low cap on the exhaust upgrade. I am pretty much sold on a Steve Wong chip too. Any recommendations from guys that are running performance mufflers would be appreciated.

I have a dansk premuffler and a SS dual out with 84mm tips. Nice rumble, not too offensive, even in a Cabriolet. Nice to set off car alarms in a parking garage . Steve W chip too. My car is transformed - can't goo enough about it!

I think most of the tuners (except those that make lots of money selling mufflers ) will tell you that the OEM muffler is best. As an example, Steve Weiner routinely posts here that the OEM unit is what he thinks is best for the 3.2 cars. I had a Bursch muffler on my 3.2 when I bought it and did not like it - too much exhaust noise - I prefer to hear the engine not the muffler. So I replace it with an OEM muffler and liked it much better. I also have a euro pre-muffler which adds a little HP (my dyno test showed 8 RWHP from this) and adds a little more sound - still very much a pure engine sound. I really like this combo.

If you need a cheap OEM muffler let me know. I have an extra used one as I bought 2 thinking I might try to make a dual out with one of them. After I installed the other OEM unit and the euro cat pipe, however, I felt like I had the perfect sound.

p.s. The euro cat pipe, combined with a MAF and a chip got me 210 RWHP (almost 250 at the crank).

Doesn't Dansk make the OEM muffler? I was under the impression that they did. PM me with your email if you want to hear it as I have a sound/movie file that's not too large.

Check out this thread on Pelican:

I have a Flowmaster muffler on my '86 911, along with a Steve Wong chip. Love the combo.
The muffler sound is a higher pitched GRRRRRR sound at idle, escalading to a shriek at WOT. . Can still hear the engine/fan. Warning: There is now some mild POPPING with lifting off throttle (which i don't mind)
I was looking for a higher pitched mechanical sound (found it in the Flowmaster), compared to the lower pitched rumble: BRRRRRRR, Burble of some of the aftermarket 911 mufflers, eg GHL, B&B, etc

Another plus: CHEAP!! Only cost me $200. parts and labor.

Good luck
