$76,100 for those who are keeping score (as pointed out by "491470" above). I'm thinking that there are a couple of VERY disappointed bidders out there.

Not having a sunroof option made that a very attractive buy... among other fine attributes.

Did you see that the other active bidder at the end stated he had a case of fat fingers and hit the wrong key at the buzzer. Could have easily gone 3-5k higher.

Yep... and after all that "auction excitement," I had to peel the cover off of The Black Swan this morning and go for a [spirited] drive. I really didn't realize that it had been a while since I had the car out... the tires did a thump-thump-thump number for a while, until the flat spots rounded themselves out.

How embarrassing

491470,

I spent some time with your car. The documentation / photo albums alone were worth it! ;-) Insanely good stuff. The car has (had) an alarm. Did you remove it?

While the 470 option is rare (my 491 1988 cab is also a 470), I don't think it appreciably affects values either way. People comment on liking it / the further rarity, but I don't think it sways legitimate buyers either way. Most 491 devotees are fans because of the turbo look. As a result, I'd be willing to bet that most want the spoilers and wings. But hey, part of what I love about the 491 cars is the ability to go tea tray, duck or tail-less. People seem to be 50/50 on whether they like tails on the narrow body cars. I think more 491 people like / want spoilers.

No kidding. Call the police. Rob, that was a buy of a lifetime, maybe two lifetimes, especially given how much joy you're deriving from it. Given your market timing & appreciation, that's a TON of free units of pleasure right there. As you know, I pined over your car's for sale post over the years.

Ohtsquared,

Are you still looking? I've followed the market for a long time and I have some definite theories as a result of all the cars I've looked at that have been for sale and others that I have been able to get transaction prices on. Let me know if you ever want to talk.

The BAT sunroof delete coupe was compelling. I was going to fly out and inspect it, but couldn't get away that week. I considered bidding, but I prefer the later cars due to their host of updates (and not just for their G50s, although that's a biggie for me).

I'm loving my cab, but I am always on the lookout for a 491 G50 coupe stablemate ... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...491-911-a.html Hell, I may add a 491 G50 targa to the stable to complete the trifecta at some point. Then wait for that lotto hit to build a bigger garage and introduce an '89 Speedster to the mix.

sjgreco, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was jealous of your recent find. Nice job. Any shots of the interior you can share?

I spend most of my time on PP as there seems to be more 491 content there, but do keep the dialog going here. I can't get enough of G body 491s.

The PO did live up your way when first purchased. I still can't believe he gave me the photo album of his delivery trip to Stuttgart. Definitely insanely good. Alarm is long gone.

Just my opinion, but I might have passed on this car if it did not have the 470 option. I really like the look of the widebody, but not real fond of the whale tail on non-turbo cars. Again just me, but think it really looks out of place on non wide-bodies. Its all good though, great cars and a lot of fun. Wife and I really enjoyed our 1500 mi delivery trip from Carlsbad to Seattle. Probably came pretty close to your place (hwy 1 through SF).

Frank- I added white center Fuchs redone at Weidman Wheels finished last week, mounted with Michelins, supposed to be period correct as original equipment, and a black OEM turbo S steering wheel to tone down the interior a little.

Was in Adelanto today to see a customer. He said he's in "the green zone" for canibus

My customer, that makes tools for the engine rebuild business, has been offered $60,000/mo to rent their back lot of maybe 1 acre. He says that six building on his street are all being fitted with indoor grow lighting and air conditioning.

If that front yard of yours was in Adelanto you'd be set for life.

There are many stories, I am a credit risk guy in commercail real estate. Heard stories of guys buying a small building a few years ago for $1 million, selling to pot growers for $4 million. Even if I was in the right pot zone, I'd have to deal with my Home Owners Association. Plus the deer are bad enough now can you imagine if there were chewing weed every day.
