Default rear stone guards original option on non-turbo?

I'm curious about the paint protect film cover that attaches to the front of the rear fenders on the 84-89 911s.
That black sticker that attaches to the rear fenders seems to be on every 930 Turbo I see.

My question is... on the standard size fenders, were they available too?
If not... where do you find the smaller size versions for non-turbo cars?

I see some standard width Carrera 3.2s with them, but they seem a little skinnier.

I have a standard non-turbo look Carrera with those black protectors on my rear fenders and I either need to take them off completely, or replace them with new one.

What should I do? If this was a dealer/factory option, then I'll replace them... but if this type of body style didn't come with them, then I'll take them off.

Thanks!

I highly recommend the magnetic stone guards on your car. I have done both kinds and the magnetic holds up better and can be easily removed for cleaning and waxing, yet stays put at triple digit speeds. They are more versatile and can be trimmed for a exact fit to the lower rubber trim.
Here is a pic of what they look like on my 911. FYI...I have a new extra set I will sell cheap. I originally bought two sets and the 1st set I put on the cars still looks new after 5 years of use.
PM me if you want a set.

They were not on option on non turbo bodied cars, as not required/low risk of chips compared to turbo bodied. However slimmer versions are available on eBay etc..

+1 on all counts. We have three black magnetic stone guard sets for our SCs, and have had them on the cars since the late-1990s. The magnetic stone guards conform tightly to the curves of the rear fenders, and our guards still look new (they may be taken off and dressed with either 303 or Black Again). These guards remain securely in place during road tours, autocrosses, and DEs. Plus the magnetic guards are non-marring to the underlying exterior paint, original on our SCs.

^I was thinking the same thing. My 85 had them, the smaller versions. Quite often referred to as "shark fins".

Never saw a car come from the factory with them back in the 80's. I did install a set or two after the fact.

Anyone had them on for extend periods then remove? What's the adhesive residue like, and was paint fading an issue (obviously dependent on exposure, etc.)?

I'm going to remove mine. I have a heat gun I'm going to use to soften up the adhesive.
The goal is to not rip up any paint... we shall see.

I had the oem flat textured stone guards on my 930 years ago and removed them. There was a slight color shift but I applied new ones so it hid it. The magnetic ones are soooo much better simply because you can remove them when you detail and wax your car. That way your paint underneath the stone guards gets cleaned and waxed all the time. You also dont get any wax on the magnetic stone guards as you will with the adhesive oem type.

I have all the techquipment or options brochures from this period and they do not show them as being an option.

Living through the times when these cars were new I had never seen one with them from new. I had a 79SC I added them to and know of a lot of people who did the same. I must assume they were all added later.
