Default What a shame....

My son, John - was cruising the eBay auctions - and stumbled on the following "auction". He said he thought he's found my old 911. I looked it up - and indeed it was my '87 911 that I loved for almost nine years. Drove it summers, fall winter and Spring. Took my two sons to hockey in it every practice and game.. Drove it on the track - WGI, NHMS, LRP - etc. And if you were on "Rennlist "during the day"" - it should look familiar....

As well - it's the SAME car Wayne used with the Christmas Tree on the back to usher in Christmas Season on PelicanParts (Hey Wayne ! )...

I sold it when I got my 993 - and NEVER expected it would ever meet this fate.. I'm half tempted to buy it back - pull it into the garage (which was it's home) - and yank all the crap out that has since been installed...

An "electric conversion"?? This is killing me.... Here is this ridiculous auction. Please - one of you buy it - and release me from the temptation... I'd love to meet whoever did this - as it would be a brief conversation - starting with "Are you kidding me??!!"

Just needed to vent.... What a shame....

Electric conversion what the ****. This one belongs squarely in the sheeper thread on pelican. Shame on whomever did that abomination.

Rick,

I got nothing.... If you look at the Carfax - it was my 911 when I started this site - until I bought my 993 - and then it went to Maine...

What you said: "..Shame on whomever did that abomination.." I'd "high-five" that comment. When it left home (my garage) - it was a wonderful 911. Intact, beautifully running - and what an '87 was all about...

Anyway - just - my thanks.. I hope it gets to a new home and a great new owner - who wants to bring her back to what she was...

For $12k (or whatever it ends up going for, couldn't be more than 15-20) somebody here HAS to grab it. Sure no engine etc but that just means she is a prime candidate for a 3.6 transplant to restore enough former glory to help her forget her experience filled with batteries!

Where is it?

You folks are awesome - my thanks... I keep imagining that I bid and won...

I broke down and asked the seller a question:

This 911 looks incredibly familiar. Does the body still have the engine and transmission mount points and shelfs in the engine compartment - or were those saw-zalled out for the conversion for the batteries?

No reply - but, dang - this old gal deserves a break...

Thanks again to all,

John D.

Forget the mounting points, ask him if there is room for a horse's head in the bed.

who does things like that to such a classic piece of art..........???????????

Now I understand why guys who can do so, just put their old favorites up in storage rather than sell them.........

I have had my first P car since 1992......... still have it, though don't drive it much any more....... I do go look at it and still have great memories of the 100k miles I put on it.......... she was with me through some very transitional years in my life............

It would be heart breaking to see somebody commit an abortion like this wayward soul did to JD's car.

Well said Gretch.... For many, I think - these cars symbolize times in our lives - and have earned a place in our garages. I know the cars Jen & I have now in our home - will stay right there. As they say - the only cars I regret selling are the ones I don't own anymore...

Anyway - after looking at how much G50s and 3.2s are going for now - and knowing it will never be a matched car again - I think I'll follow the auction from afar...

By the way Amber - I'm LOL at your comment..

My best to all who've posted in this thread!!!

John....

Put a positive spin on it...

It's not an aberration, it's the world's largest slot car.

Best to you and Jen, buddy!
