Default 1979 SC find

I added a 1979 911SC to the collection yesteday evening.
Been chasing it for about a year and finally got it.

It has low mileage (54000kms) and was repainted once along with new carpet and seat skins.

Came with 18" turbo twists and gold 16" BBS wheels.

my question is how do i tell if it is a Euro car?
It is in KMS so i assumed it was canadian. (I bought it in canada).

The VIN is all numbers, no letters.
The guages are in German.

You can tell from the VIN. First four digits for a 1979 911 are 9119, where the second 9=1979.

Next digit for a USA coupe would be a 2. Your car, being ROW, should be a 3.

So your VIN is 91193xxxxx. Based on production numbers, you should be 9119300001 to 9119303318.

Hmmm, then that would indicate a USA car, per this page on Simon's website: http://www.adelgigs.com/911scproductiondata.shtml

Next check would be the engine type number stamped on the case on a horizontal surface to the right of the fan. Probably 930/04 or 930/06. The above link tells you which type goes to what market the car was built for.

Yes, you have a N. American car...Gauges in German, speedo in KM, but all other specs the same as US.
Serial number and smog equipped tell the tale.

Nice car

This SC is totally new to me.
I am going to try and find out if the wing was an ordered option on this car?
I also would like to find out if the window trim came painted black or not. I think it might have been painted black after factory...

The car was repainted in the 1990s and that might explain the "carrera" badge and perhaps the window trim was also painted to give an "updated" look.

Anybody know if these wheels were an option in 1979?

i am looking to give this car a mild make over.

Front and rear Iroc bumpers, talbot mirrors, 8 and 9 Fuchs, prototipo wheel, shifter, RS door panels, exhaust, remove the rockers, exposed oil lines.

My 1979 has chrome trim. If you search around you'll find a lot of conflicting information, but I think chrome was standard with black available as an option.

I believe black became standard in 1980.

did your car have the chrome headlight rings and chrome door handles as well?

Perhaps early production 1979 had the chrome trim and late 1979 models did not?

So the tail wasnt optional from 78-83?

Did the 1974-1977 Carrera come with a tail?

Don't know, by the time I bought the car it had been in a front end accident and the fender, bumper, and lower valence were replaced with parts from a Carrera, including H5 headlights with body-color headlight rings.

My car is an early one (September 1978), so that could be part of it. But if black was available as an option anyway, there's no way to really tell if date of manufacture also had something to do with it. I don't think the SCs had an option sticker, and I have not requested a COA.
