One more opinion: that price is too high. George's values are much more in line with the current market.

well, here's an even more expensive one. no personal knowledge of the car and no idea if its still available - just noticed it browsing our local board - sounds interesting and may be negotiable. it was listed in mid-Sept.

if anyone is interested, i'd be happy to take a look at it and inquire further.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I've been out of town on a business trip for the past week.

You guys really confirmed my feelings. Too much money. The seller was stuck on the $17K, so I told him to give me a call if he decided to come down on the price.

So, I'm still looking for a nice car at a reasonable price. Let me know if you know of any in my area.

Thanks!

Unused spare tires that old will fail if used as a spare. Get a new one if you buy the car.

If a turbo tail was factory optional on an SC, it's the first I've heard of it. That tail was not factory anyway, it is obviously aftermarket.

IMO, an SC can bring $17K, but it has to be extremely nice. Is the seat leather cracked, or does it just show some "patina" that can be greatly improved with leather treatment? Is the paint nearly perfect, or just nice? If it's an unusually nice car, it's worth the $17K, IMO. If it's just nicer than most, the price is too high. I have yet to see a G50 Carrera 3.2 in excellent condition for $17K, unless the mileage is quite high.

Spoiler: the Turbo tail was in fact the optional SC tail in '83.

Since it is just an opinion.... IF the car got an outstanding PPI/leakdown, and all, carfax ect... 17 would not be unreasonable. REALLY good SC's are getting hard to find at a good price.

I don't know about the price, except that I think you could get a pretty nice '84 to '86 3.2 for that money, and you'll wish you had, if you buy this late US market 3.0. I owned one for nine years, and I loved it, but I always felt that the car lacked for power, plus it's heavy. The 3.2 cured the power problem. Now, I have a RoW 3.0 with 203 hp that's as fast as a 3.2 (from what I can tell), and lighter to boot. I like it much better than my old US market 3.0 and better than most of the 3.2s I've driven. However, for most buyers, I think that a nice US market 3.2 is the best traditional 911 (torsion bars and air cooling) to buy. And, since you can buy a good one for $17,000, why not wait?

Comparisons to 964s and later cars are not really helpful, because those cars will never acquire the cult status of a Porsche with torsion bars and air cooling, in my opinion.

You make some good points here Tom!

I've seen quite a few EXCELLENT examples matching your parameters, in his price range. Near Concourse condition.

Unfortunately, I'd like to buy ALL of them.

A buddy of mine sold his 86 911 3.2 Carerra for $19,000-$19,900 in Ohio -- not LA or Miami. Car won several ribbons and was on the cover of Tweeks catalog once. It had 90K miles but the interior was as mint as the day it was built and the paint was 9.5 out of 10. Had sport seats and tough to find champaigne/brown combo interior. Had factory short shift kit. Ice cold A/C. Not a drop of oil leaking. Aftermarket wheel. Had Sony stereo/speaker/woofer in it, upgraded to H4 headlights, and had 16" BBS rims. Had spoiler too. Powder coated engine compartment.

If you can get this kind of car for under $20K in Ohio, that SC shouldnt go for a dime over $15K in Keokuk Iowa.

Keep shopping - I paid 19K for my 1987 Cabriolet - 47,000 miles - G-50 - spotless interior. Deals are out there.

$17K is way to much. Keep in touch with him - he'll come down if he wants to move it. I personally like the tail less look
