Smile is there a way to "push in" the front bumper on a '79?

Older BMW guys do it, and it's called bumper liposuction. They drain the fluid from the pressurized bumper shocks, and push the bumper in about 2 inches. Is this do-able on the SC styled 911's? Thanks in advance...

I think you would have to deal with the bellows somehow.

Back in the 70's I helped a friend "push in" the bumpers on his Scirocco and it was as easy as drilling holes and letting the oil drain out ........ didn't have bellows though.

Can the bumper shocks on the SC be removed completely while still using the same front and rear bumpers?

I've seen it done a couple different ways on bimmers..... either you drill and drain, then drill all the way through and run a bolt through it (to keep it from moving), or replace the shocks with steel tubes. Obviously you lose any "absorbing" effect with either method.

The bellows are usually cut, shortened and re-glued, either by butting the ends together and using a portion of the removed section for reinforcement on the backside, or by cutting near the end and tucking the bellows behind the cut.

Unfortunately with the older BMW's, many of the bellows are NLA, so cutting up a good one is difficult decision to make! :-)

One thing that speaks against it is the fact that the bumpers looked like that in europe too. There wasn't an 'american' bumper like on the BMW etc. I think Porsche felt it was a good looking bumper an with over 50% (?) of their cars going to the US it oriented itself there. I never thought of the 911 bumper being an eye sore like it was on the other German cars. What is truly an eyesore on the early 911, just like on the older MB are the headlights. I will convert to H4 for looks asap.

I see the sense in doing it to a BMW. But the ones on the 911 look fine the way they are.

I like the front bumper on the 911, think it looks good as is
The rear bumper with the big (Or small euro) pads never thrilled me.

Too bed there are no good looking euro versions, I changed to the euro rear on my 951 and it looks 100% better.
