Default intermittent odometer failure

Have read threads regarding odometer failure, speedometer still working. Also read Wayne's book on causes. They seem to address when the odometer fails out right, that is gear teeth gone or broken altogether. What about when the odometer works but stops after running about 100 miles continuous, then after stopping the car begins to work again for another 100 or so miles. Would seem to me something is working its way loose but how does it reconnect after stopping? Anybody see this before?

I think the gear is slipping on the press fit to the shaft ........ occasionally. Treat and cure in the same fashion as “Odometer Stopped Working (Totally) Speedo OK”

You mean the pot metal gear on the end.... sounds logical, I'll have to get it apart to see. Thanks for the feedback!
