Default 1981 911 SC Short shifter kit

I'm looking at a car that had some kind of "short shifter kit" installed on it. I don't particularly like the feel of that shifter, compared to the stock SC I've driven.

Do you know if such a kit would have any resale value if I wanted to go back to stock?

Probably half of new retail for it.

Request permission to beat the dead horse.

The factory shifter on the SC/Carrara is the best option. "Short shifter" kits simply stress the synchronizers, and increase the probability that an inexperienced driver will do a "money shift"

That said, most cars of this vintage need a total rebuild on the shifter to operate properly, and there are some really good aftermarket couplings that work well, and are worth the money.

Is is a race type short shifter...like raised at the base..metal base and shifter...like a Weavo type?

Agree anything used goes for about half, unless almost perfect aftermarket high end wheels.

I have a Porsche short shifter and it works amazingly well , but as noted your gearbox had better be in good shape as it can stress components.

Standard shift was just too much like a tractor for me .

The SC and Carrera shifters are not the same. The 85-86 3.2 Carreras are shorter throw, which they achieved by lengthening the distance from the pivot down to the ball ever so slightly. IMO, it's the best of the breed and noticeably different than an SC shifter.

It may be a factory unit like mine . This means to go back you will need the stock parts too.
