Thoughts on RADAR detectors? Effective?
Bought my first Porsche 2 months ago (2014 911 C2) and I love driving it hard. Any thoughts on RADAR detectors? Are they still relevant with LASER guns? Any reduction of ticket risk would most likely be worth it.

It sucks that Virginia and DC still maintain that radar/laser detectors are illegal.
I don't know if mine has helped me avoid a speeding ticket but I like using it anyway. It's good enough that it makes me feel like I'm protected from revenue-enhancing activities of government. Texting while driving is a life-threating activity vs use of a radar detector...and what are government agencies doing about that?

Despite not being an old 911 specific question, I personally find my radar detector very useful. On many occasions it has certainly made me aware of non obvious threats before being too late. The Porsche tax is real and these are the best counter measure I've used. Cheers

While I have a V1 hardwired in every vehicle, I rely mostly on WAZE to capture the PoPo, red light and speed cameras.
True story. Got pulled in VA going 95 in a 55, super early on a holiday morning. No one on the road. Trooper was sitting atop the onramp and pinged me as I rolled by. Didn't have WAZE on. While getting written up, I decided to turn on WAZE to see if she was even tagged. Yup. Shown right up on the ramp I saw her pull out of. It would have saved me $1,000+ and points had I turned it on.

I would say in general radar detectors are an outdated technology with the apps mentioned above . Especially with laser . I found mine to be such a pain in the *** I got rid of it 10 years ago .
