For many race fans, Steve McQueen's 1971 film 'Le Mans' is still considered one of the finest and most accurate Hollywood representations of real time racing. But even that reputation wasn't enough to impress auction-goers at a Christie's auction in Paris last week.

Story of the history of the car sounds a little fishy. How could it go to Jo Siffert's collection after her death etc unless she died right after the movie. Siffert was killed in Sept 1971 (a day I remember VERY clearly as he was one of my favourites).
Is a neat car however... I'd take it!!

It was at an auction of random household clutter, I'm not surprised it didn't sell.

This particular sepia brown 911T may not have sold well because it's not "the" 911 that Steve McQueen drove in the opening scenes of the movie "Le Mans," nor is it the (same blue) 911 that McQueen is rumored to have "appropriated" and taken home with him after filming ended. The car pictured here apparently was "only" another 911 used by the film crew, according to Road & Track.

There seems to be a shortage of good 911s. We saw a lot of bad cars at Monterey - and the prices dropped accordingly.
Now we're getting cars with questionable provenance.
Right now the top tier houses are trying to get cars for the Amelia auctions. It'll be interesting to see if they can find any really good cars.

Agree it is not the same Porche in Lemans movie, as I just watched my Blue Ray version again on Sunday. That 911 was a greyish/slate grey color. The scenes at the beginning of the movie show several great looks of McQueen in the 911.

The 911 Steve drove in the opening sequence of the movie was bought from Porsche and was the same as the one he owned in California....
Now in posession of his son Chad.

Interesting according to the article posted on rennlist

After filming, the car was given to McQueen’s leading lady in the film, Elga Anderson, who was promised the Porsche as part of her compensation. After Anderson’s death, her best friend took ownership. She then sold it to a garage in Switzerland. Eventually the rare Porsche ended up in the collection of racing star Jo Siffert’s estate. Still, with so many owners, the Porsche displayed exceptional provenance and remains in impeccable condition.
