912 SWB Track Car?

Guys,
I recently sold my 964 track car. I'm looking for something older to fulfill the same duty. Street legal track/race car (race what you brought kind of thing).
I have the opportunity to buy a nice SWB 912 as a donor car (runs and drives, nice body and all).
I intend to highly modify the car to make it a good track car (3.6 EFId, Elephant Racing suspension, wider body to accept wider wheels and tires...). You know the gig.
Originally, I was looking for a LWB as I heard they're better for this.
So, here is my question: Could I make it work with a SWB or should I keep looking for a LWB?
Thanks a lot!
John

Personal opinion.
912 is a collectable car, a good one is now worth $40K or more... it is not a track car.
Building a track car with a 3.6 on a 912 chassis will cost you $60K, and when you are done will be worth $30K, so you will spend $60K to turn a $40K car into a $30K car that is not competitive, and is broken all the time.
Buy a 997 Carrara S for $50K, and you will have a car you can drive to the track, drive fast, and drive home, and if you have the money, you can go $70-80K, and buy a 997 GT3.

Building race cars is never a winning proposition...
Thanks for your opinion though
And I said track car not race car :-)
I have other modern cars I can track. This project is designed to track an older car

The problem with a SWB and a 3.6 swap will be that fitting a 915 in there to hold the power is a bit of work. You are best off to find a 72-73 chassis if you want that much power because a 901 won't hold it.
Unless the 912 seller is giving away the car with no knowledge of the market it diesnt even make financial sense. There are so many lwb rollers for sale with no engine for cheap I can't see his buying a running driving 912 is a better starting point.

Thank you!
The seller isn't giving the 912 so I think I'll pass
So many rolling chassis huh. Can't seem to find one...
A 74+ would work too for me

It just seems like yesterday i built this from a bunch of older parts from a 912 and put in a proper 2.7 mag case engine. those were the days. back then (maybe 15 years) it was callled a frankinstien so you could only get about 12K out of it when you got bored and needed another fix
