@Cobalt - this one is in fantastic condition but I don't see the seller going for an offer at almost half his asking price.. We'll see! Thanks for the link though

I guess I don't have 30k+ to drop, more about 25 so the problem lays there.

Thanks for the advices on this SC.
Hi Max,

There was a black/black targa I went to see a couple of months ago that the owner was willing to sell at $27k. It seemed an ok car, not fantastic but not too shabby either. Not sure if he still has it but I can point you to it if you want.

Yet you'll likely, today, end up spending much more than $30K in buying a questionable car.

I've got a likely ~$15K '80 Weissach sitting in my backyard. Won't sell it. Just not worth the hassle in dealing with a $15K budget buyer.

(This was the same when a driver SC was a $12K car--$9-10K was the budget.)

You're right, buyers range adapt to the market as well.

In my case, I'm only 28 and wanted a Porsche air cooled since I was a kid.
When I finally land a good job and a bit of cash, the market goes through the roof. Bad luck!
Not losing hope but it's been a lot of time spent for nothing looking for a car.

Odds are you'll find something fairly priced for the current market by hanging out where the cars and owners congregate--PCA and other car functions. Yeah, crap does show up, but it's easy pay no attention. A dealer would be the last place I'd look for a 35 year old car, outside of Blue Chip collectibles (and even then you have to be wary).

Where are you?

@race911
I live in LA right now, which is probably the worst place to want a 911 as so many people with money just discovered a new passion for air-cooled. sigh.
