Default Pics of totaled car

Should this be worth more than $ 6,000. Car were perfect except for what you see. The $ 6,000 is insurance value. Should I keep it and try to get more for it or will it be too much of a pain.

If the insurance company are calling it a total loss and giving you 6K, that is ridiculous. Go to them with the local paper or auto trader and have them show you a cab for 6K. Idiots. Fight those crooks. They deserve the crotch kicking after all the money we give them on a yearly basis. The reason one pays full coverage is to receive the money to replace the vehicle with an equivalent unit of the same vintage. No more, no less. If not, what are we paying full coverage for. If I am not mistaken, blue book for that car is at least 19K. Then there is no denying the fact that blue book constantly undervalues 911s.

Doug,
You can probably make some money be parting the car out. I hear that is a huge pain though. I see whole wrecked 911's on the Oklahoma Foreign site for $7-$9K. Too bad, looked like a really nice car.

It's worth more in parts than it is as a whole. Although I have to say somebody would pay you more than the insurance quote even for the whole thing.

Sometimes parting a car out and selling the bits can be fun...if you have the room and time. But there might come a time when you're just sick of trying to sell the bits and want to get rid of it all. (..trust me..) But think about it...in parts...motor ($4-6k), trans ($500+), wheels ($1k+), seats ($250-500), hood ($250-500)...and on and on.

Either way, there is still quite a lot of value to your car.

Parts for the Commemorative edition 911 are difficult to come by. If you look for anything in colour code 8HF it is usually about twice as expensive as any other colour. I have just spent a small fortune on some new interior parts and could still do with a few more. It looks repairable to me. In the UK one of these will go for about £16k (approx $22k). Far more than your insurance people are offering. But then they always try and offer you next to nothing for your car. If you end up keeping it and parting it then let me know.

And the name of this great insurance company? I would certainly like to know so that I may direct others . . . . . elsewhere!

Have a body shop you trust give you an estimate. Are they going to give you 6K and let you keep the car?
If your paying out of pocket a body shop might work with you.I'm not a body man but what I see 6k should fix it.

Doug,

Are you saying 6K is what the insurance company wants to let you buy the car back?

So far they gave me $ 19k + and they will give me $ 6k+ more if and when I sign the title over to them. $6k is just the salvage value they placed on the car. They paid $ 26K+ - $ 1k deductible.

I want to basically summarize what has been said before:

- You may be able to sell the car for more than 6k as a whole. Maybe 2k more, in my humble opinion.

-You will definitely make much more if you go through the hassle of parting the car yourself. 10k or so total. But that's work, needs room and can be a hassle unlike you enjoy pulling it apart and dealing with folks (e.g. through ebay.)

If I were you, I'd buy it from the insurance. Throw it on ebay with a 6k reserve / starting price. It should sell for more than that and you may be able to recover an additional few grand that way.

Also check with your local porsche specific dismantlers. I think there is a place in Atlanta (wich would be close to you). See what they'd give you for it.

Cheers, George

Are you sure it can't be fixed? I had a similar hit on my car, and my body guy was able to pull the car back into shape. Everything aligns perfectly on the road, and it looks great. The only prob is there is that the rubber seal between the body and the engine sheet metal has a noticable gap at the right front of the engine compartment. (no engine damage, thank God)

A good body guy at the right price, and some clean used parts can work wonders....mabe even leave you a chunk of $ left over from the $19K for some perf mods or an additional investment.

Get a few more opinions is my $.02.

Take the 19K and whatever else, than buy the car back from them. Of course, the title will have a blemish. But who cares in the end.

The estimate to rebuild was $ 25K even using some used parts.

Unhappy

Just wanted to chime in and say what a shame it is to see another classic 911 taken off the road...particularily a Cab. Damn that sucks. God Bless that car.
