Default Road Trip Questions

Please help me decide on which car to take on my road trip.

I'm taking a 2500 mile road trip, starting from the Bay Area (California) to Bodie, Death Valley, Vegas, Zion, Antelope Valley, Grand Canyon, LA then back up on the Pacific Coast Highway.

I can either take a 05 911 with about 70k miles, a 06 Audi A3 with 96k or a 14 Forester with 20k miles. The Subaru is the only Auto & AWD. I know the logical car to take is the Subaru, but I really want to take the 911 because of the windy roads & open roads on this trip. However, I have several fears: 1. Lack of a spare tire 2. CHPs that will pull you over just because.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Well of course take the 911! I've taken mine (04 911) to all of the places on your list. Best decision!

Just get a radar detector and be smart about it.

Take a Dynaplug tire repair kit with you and a compact tire inflator and that will provide you with peace of mind.

Welcome. We take our '88 911 Cab on lots of road trips. In fact, that's about the only thing we use it for. They are fantastic road cars even when stripped down and stiffened up.

Here is a thread from Member BobbyC that just returned from a coast to coast solo drive in his GT3RS. He wasn't sure what Porsche to take. LOL.

Get a 3A's card with Premium coverage for 200 miles towing and a cell phone. As for tickets, don't speed. You will enjoy the trip much more if you are not constantly worried about getting stopped for speeding. Of course, take the 911.

It's just the wife and I. I think we're going to take the 997. Altought I enjoy driving the A3, it's too low to the ground to make it in some of the places we're going. As for the 911, the 74 911 that I have is less reliable/comfortable than the 997.

Thanks for all the input.
