Default 915 tranny help needed

Ok heres the story , car never grinded just shifted sloppy alittle hard to get into first at a red light

All the bushings were no good
The shifter bushing
The couple bushings

So like a moron i took off the coupler from the shift rod without marking it

I replaced everything all bushing put everything back

Followed the procedure to adjust the coupler to the rod several times

First time i was able to get into 1,2,3,4 with no reverse or 5th

then. Ajdusted it and able to get in 1,2 5th and reverse
Feels like no lockout for reverse

So i kept playing with it

I brought it to my friends shop who knows porsche alittle
He messed with it took the shift rod off retryed everything

It only goes smothly into 1,2 5,reverse feels like no lockout
This is with the car off

And while driving

Now when i drive it if i push hard i feel it grinding but would have to force it into 3rd which i dident do

Mechanically im somewhat inclined but i feel deep down that its simply not alighned right

I feel like im doing something wrong

Can anyone help?

Sounds like you just dont quite have it.

i would go with Pete Zimmermans technique if you can find it. The adjustments are really minor.

My Porsche wrench said that with coupler just loose enough to adjust if you put it in third and 'shake it" you can bring it in. Never tried it myself

For some reason a clutch cable adjustment can help per my experience.

Bill Rudtner is in Freeport in Long Island. He's a good gearbox wrench.

Linkages on these cars are very sensitive to adjustment... I had all kinds of shifting problems on my (79 SC) racer... turns out the cup on the front of the shift rod tore lose... who'd thunk it? But removing the shift rod is an enormous PIA.

Check that, and if you have a "short-shift" kit, go back to the factory...

A properly adjusted factory shifter will work perfectly every time, and it sound to me like it is a linkage problem.

Good luck.
