Default List of DOT R-compound tires for 15” wheels

Hello everyone,

My 1984 3.2L will soon be shipped to the US and I am looking into replacing the tires. It currently has old Bridgestone S02 205/55/15 & 225/50/15 road tires on.

I live in LA and I will use the car on the road and on the tracks.

Here is a list of tires currently available for 15” wheels:

BF Goodrich g-Force R1 (also R1S): 205/50/15 + 225/50/15
Hankook Ventus Z214: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15
Hoosier R6 & A6: 205/50/15 + 245/40/15
Hoosier R7 & A7: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15 or 225/50/15 or 245/50/15
Hoosier Wet: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15 or 225/55/15
Khumo Ecsta V710: 205/50/15 + 225/50/15
Nitto NT01: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15
Toyo Proxes R888: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15 or 225/50/15 or 235/50/15
Toyo Proxes RA1: 205/50/15 + 225/45/15 or 225/50/15
Yokohama Advan A048: 205/50/15 + 225/50/15

From what I’ve read the NT01 seems like a great choice, but what do you guys think?

How much road, how much track.

You will not want to road the Hoosiers or BFGs. Some get away with it, but...

Probably 50/50.

Ok that shrinks down the list already!

NT-01's or RA-1's. IMHO, those are the best overall DOT-R tires that are streetable.

R888's and 048's are pretty noisy for road use.

It doesn't rain much in SoCal, so I guess I'll go with the NT-01. Thanks appreciated.

Old thread, but question related to the above. I have Toyo's RAE1 as my track/ street tires, but I have recently acquired a second set of 7 and 8 x 15 fuchs that Im planning to use as everyday with a more durable compound and save the RAE1's for track only. Per my research today there aren't any summer performance options (especially for the rears) for every day street use. The only option I have seen on tire rack is a BF Goodrich G Force Rival S and its on a 225/45 15. Would it make a difference to have a 50 profile in the front and 45 in the rear or will it be irrelevant? anybody know other options for regular street use rubber?

205/50x15 on a 7 and 225/45x15 on an 8 would be a good combo, fronts are ~23.1" OD rears ~23". These tires are quite short and allow the car to be run very low, also help acceleration a lot.
