Short circuit?
Rennlist Member

Normally, I'm one of those cursed water-pumpers, but right now I'm babysitting my stepmom's '86 911. She refuses to ever drive it, so I finally convinced her to let me take it for the next couple of months so that it wouldn't just rot away. Which, sadly, was a little too late... if anyone saw a 911 sitting on the side of I-395 at the Pentagon two weeks ago with a siezed fuel pump, well, that was me...

Anywho, on to my question...
This car has had that problem with a short circuit draining the battery, often in as little as 24 hours. I've heard that this problem is often caused by improperly installing an aftermarket radio, so I decided to see how my dad had put it in. During the testing, I noticed that the yellow(? I think it's yellow, anyway) wire that supplies the power with the ignition would have about 1 volt running through it when the car was off. I'm thinking that's not good, and was wondering if anyone know where I should look. I'm thinking maybe the ignition switch has a short in it, but I thought I'd ask you all in case someone has seen this before.
Thanks!
BB.
