Congrats Tom! Let's see some pics! Not a bad idea to keep the second set of wheels with all seasons if you do decide to drive in late fall/early spring and want to save the RE11's for summer. You will certainly not be disappointed with the RE11s, I still remember the day I got them installed to replace the old Falkens that were on it before. WOW. Totally transformed the car. A good idea to get the shop to do an alignment once the new tires go on. Let us know how it goes!

all-season tires on a 911? what's the point? i run RE-11s on my '87 and have run them in the past as well. extremely capable tire, a grip level just below all-out performance tires (100 treadwear and below) and very capable in rain and cold. in 205/225, you have lots of choices including R-S3s, XS, DZ starspec, R1R, RE050, etc. if i could have gotten them in 225/245, i would have opted for the R-S3 myself - simply to try them. there's a much more limited choice if you want to run 245/16 in the rear.

Very timely topic.
I'm new to Porsches, purchased a 84 carrera couple months ago. The car is in very nice shape and hasn't been driven much the last 20 years. The tires still have lots of tread on them, but are 22 years old. I have been going the same process trying to decide what to replace them with. Your usage sounds identical to my situation and I had also narrowed it down to the PS A/S 3 and RE11A. After more thought, I have decided to go with the RE11A. Only problem, is I can't get them around these parts for a reasonable price until Spring. I can get the RE11's but they are supposed to less capable in the wet than that RE11A. I'm in the PNW, rarely gets real cold here, but it does rain a lot. In the meantime I will continue to drive (carefully) on these old tires.

If just summer street, I would be (am) going with the conti dw (not the all season variant of the same tire)

Good luck!
Matt,

You will like the Conti DW's ... i have those as street/rain tires on my 911 !
Much better in the wet than the original first generation Dunlop Dirrezzas which were phenomenal ... you will need some 17 inch wheels though

Just sayin ...

Cheers

Virob,
I ordered the RE11A's today on tirerack and Ill get them Tuesday, I'm in the NE. Cant see why anything should be diff where you live. Have them shipped to your mechanic or to a Tirerack installer local to you.
I ordered 205/55 and 225/50 for 16" wheels. Congrats on the car purchase and hope you are having as much fun as I am.

I'm surprised I am the only one suggesting Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto PE2. A great summer tire with good wet performance.

[QUOTE=wildcat077;11926934]Matt,

Hey Matt, I'm sure that I am having at least as much fun as you are!
I'm in Canada, I can order from Tirerack, but with poor exchange rate, extra shipping and duty, it doesn't work out very well.
Surprisingly, Costco has the best price on these tires,a good $300 less, but they won't have new stock for a couple of months.
When you get your tires I'll be very interested to know what you think of them.
