Default late 77 911S differences?

I have been slowly finding out that my late 77 targa has lots of 78 parts. 9 bolt crank and flywheel, AL engine case.... is it possible I have a 3.0 in the car? How do I tell?

Engine type number is embossed on the case next to the fan shroud. Post that and the gurus will tell you what engine is in your car. That does not necessarily mean that is the original engine, as swaps are common, but it is a start.

Interesting. It's orange. When I go to the shop tomorrow, I will check the engine # to be sure.

Sounds like a 3.0 to me. Here's the engine number decoder for the 911SC 3.0 starting with 1978:

i believe it's difficult to have all original components to older cars. i've seen it in 80s examples let alone from the 70s.

If it has a 3.0 I'd consider myself lucky. I bought my 77 because of that. Put on a Dansk exhaust and drive the crap out of it with the windows open.
