Heat exchangers interchangeability
Would the heat exchangers from pre '74 911 fit the SC? any caveats like too small of a diameter for the 3 L motor? I am looking at an alternative to change the existing two in one system to the more free flow on the previous model. The only alternative I am reading about is SSI heat exchangers which I find rather costly. Another reason is that I have a Bursch two in/one out rear muffler for '66 to '73 cars and fitting it to the existing SC system would be too complicated to be worthwhile (according to the shop). And yes, I need heat in the car, it gets cold in Canada! Thanks,
George

Hi George:
Yessir, the 69-74 heat exchangers with fit the 3.0 litre engine without difficulty. The pipe diameters are just fine and this is a great upgrade for any SC.
You'll need to use the '74 oil line under the bellhousing to fit them, and a dual-in muffler.
I will also tell you that your Bursch muffler is FAR from ideal and I'd suggest either a Monty muffler or a Dansk.
