Well, I ran upon this car that recently sold on Pelican.......this has to be evidence that the buyers are purely delusional at this stage of this epic bubble.....has the bubble popped.....has the fat lady rang the bell ? You cannot ignore the signals, that's for sure.

He listed his 'ask' price but not the sold price....I doubt the two are the same.
Given that, I don't think it is a bubble. It may level off if something happens in the near future but I do not see a significant drop coming.
Too many examples with other marques for a very long time.

 

That car from the description sounded like a $10k car. He prob had a sap pay mid teens.

$23k asking for an 85' cab is not too far fetched... Now, this car is somewhat of a project and should command low to mid teens when it come time to selling price but it never hurts to ask. It is a complete car after all.

Seeing what people are asking for long hoods is what really freaks me out...

 

A 73 targa 911s sold at an auction in uk for £195k that's over $310,000 - I am sure it was concours condition and had unique provenance, these cars are the market drivers but it doesn't mean that every crap out there can now be doubled in price as collectors will never even touch cars below a certain pedigree so they end up pricing themselves out of their potential customer base range. .... Dust will settle and prices will normalise once realism takes over from market excitement.

Great as these cars are overall, the AC is a cruel joke

 

I looked at dozens of cars that were in worse shape than that, that were all priced in that range and higher. This was 8 years ago. Once I got mine home and really started looking at it, I could not believe what a gem I had found. Upon digging into it I was shocked at all the rusty fasteners. Then, over time, I saw all the pictures posted here of other 3,2's and 3,0's and realized again that my car is as clean as they come. Hanging out at a local shop has really opened my eyes to just how old and rusty some of them are.

 

Four years ago I tried and tried to sell my '84 911 Coupe, in darn near perfect condition and 78K on the odo. Finally got $14 for it. Now the same car is bringing high 20's...........go figure. I want another mid-80's 911 coupe but will not pay what the asks are now.............guess I'll never get another with my mind set.

 

I was told by many experts in the area that if I didn't get one now they'd be out of reach in a year or two.

 

The maroon (cherry rot?) one? It looked like a really nice car and if I knew it could be had for that I would have called! Opposite coasts kept me away, but for 14k...

 

Experts normally make their living out of these cars so have a vested interest in price hikes ..... As anyone will tell you prices go up, down or stagnate .... After such a rapid rise, market is due for some adjustment or at least a period of stability - no one can tell you when that will be for certain. There is already some cooling off in UK of certain sections such as 993tt & 964 rs & cup cars with showrooms dropping prices by some 10-15% (no takers yet!). Classics on the other hand have been breaking records (pre73).
