So back in early September I was out on a pristine Sunday in my 87 Targa, following my girlfriend with her 17 year old son, my 8 year old son in her A5 Cab. We were on our way to breakfast. We had just pulled onto Rt. 23 East which twists and turns through the area where we both live. A woman in a Ford Escape decides to make a left turn from a side street on my right and go between the A5 and me in my 87 Targa. Needless to say I plowed right into her. Fortunately I was unharmed and the kids were in the other car. I could see it was going to happen so I braced for impact and the force of the blow even at 30 to 35 MPH bent the momo back into the dash. Thank goodness for seatbelts! The car was a total loss. The force of the blow bent it enough that it’s a total loss. Which is a dam shame since the motor and trans were fine, or appeared to be fine.

I received notification on my settlement from the woman’s insurance company and I thought it was fair, considering the state of the market for these cars. I got back my set of Lindsey 17 Inch Fuchs, which amazingly were undamaged sans a small nick on the drivers front wheel.
I did go ahead and replace the 87 with an 88! I took the train to DC and purchased this 1988 Cassis Red 65k mile Targa. The car is fantastic, and the gentleman who I bought it from was a pleasure to deal with. All the service records from both owners, COA, the original steering wheel and radio, the car is a real gem. I drove it back to Philly and its tight as a drum, it's actually nicer than the 87 which was totaled.

Wow.... Glad everyone is okay. End of the day they are just cars, replaceable. Did they offer you a buy back? I'd love a 3.2 engine for my car

Ouch! Glad nobody got hurt. Happy to know you immediately got a replacement (nice color btw). As the Ice mentioned, do you have plans of buying it back. Would love that freshly looking decklid on the 87.

Glad everyone is OK. Looks like the new ride is sporting a set of Wheel Enhancement's smooth/sandblast finish Fuchs. First time I've seen them on a car. Nice looking car in a unique color. ![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Looks like your 87 has a lot of usable parts. If a buy back isn't possible let us know (if you can) which salvager buys it.

I bought my 964 cab back from insurance company for peanuts and I just put a clutch in it 900 miles before wreck. Like a few grand peanuts. After getting in the mid 20's for it with high mileage from insurance. Buying it back was a no brainer. Motor and tranny, interior worth it many times over what I paid to get the car back and put drivetrain and million other parts into a freshly painted burn victim. Now I have a perfect 91 black targa. Sounds as though with no mention of a buy back it is too late. Shame.
