Default 87-89 shifter linkage - do we lube?

I replaced the bushings in the shifter mechanism and am about to reassemble. Unsure if I should lube (and with what) the shift rod at the new shifter housing bushing. Any thoughts? Thanks

I usually use a small amount of lithium grease. None is needed though.

Clive, given your recent entry into bachelorhood, it stands to reason.....

Thanks for the suggestions. I completed the job without any lube, but there seems to be a lot of friction on that new donut like bushing so I think I'll get back in there and give it a couple shots. Getting that bushing in and the rod back in was a beast. Just curious if I missed an easy set. Had it in 4th as suggested but still had a hell of a time.

That about sums up the job. You have to hold your tongue just right while installing the assembly.
