Default Fitting E cams to a Carb engine

My friend wants to fit E cams and PMO's to his rebuilt 2.4 CIS engine (along with appropriate P&C's etc).

Clearly the MFI pump extension to the LH cam will need to be 'accommodated' in some way. A search has only revealed that the 'cam needs a minor modification', but no details of what. I was thinking more likely to remove the plug at the rear end of the cam carrier and fit the seal etc that would normally be there.

Can anyone advise in detail what needs to be done, or point me to somewhere it is detailed please?

Mick

Yep. Just get the seal (if it's not already included in the upper end gasket set), or have a machine shop cut the MFI drive boss. If you go the seal route, you will need to either get those pieces of MFI sheetmetal that would cover the #3 head and MFI pulley/belt, or cut a hole to clearance the boss sticking out.

I'd go the cut off route, just to not have something spinning out there uncovered if you don't get the MFI sheetmetal.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Cutting the extension off seems the way to go.

So I just get the MFI extension cut off square. Any need to rebalance the cam afterwards? Any specific instructions to the machine shop?

Thanks

Mick
