Carrera vs SC, some twisted thoughts
Bought my first 1977 911 'CARRERA' last month. Along with it came the 'kinda correct' (U.S.) owners manual for the car. The front page announced:
Porsche 911S: the factory announced 157 SAE HP 2.7L (US)
Turbo Carrera: factory figures 234 SAE HP 3.0L (US)
While I was at Porsche Zentrum in Munich I ordered the correct owners manual for the car. New figures are 'in'. The manual drops the 'S' designation on the Porsche 911 thruout the correct Porsche normally aspirated, (read non-Turbo), '77 & 76' owners manual. Although Porsche dropped the 'S' after the '911', the HP figures are rated to be:
Porsche 911: 165 SAE 2.7L
Carrera 3.0 : 223 SAE 3.0L
Don't imagine this went down well with US Porsche racing fans, hoping for another great model year(77) from Zuffenhauzen. Turbo & Carrera models did well, given price differentials, about 33% of sales worldwide; $25,850 (Turbo) and $14,000 for 911S and 'X' for the still faster 911 ROW. Anyone out out there know what the price of a new, meaner, still faster, '77' Carrera's in U$ dollars?? ........Did I say I love this car ?

Sorry if I made the spines on your back stand up there Alan..LOL.... What I should have said was SC was first used on the 356 and not it meant 'Super Carrera' . However , it's interesting to speculate on what 356SC means 'Super' as you know had been used on the Super 75 and Super 90 . As the 1600S was replaced by the 1600SC it might mean Sport Carrera as in 'S' for Sport or indeed Super as in the super 75 and 90 models. What do you think ?

SC stand s for:
" Super Comfort"
Both, for 356 and 911.
That info is from somebody that knows it.
But seing is believing. And as long as you can read in this Porsche website (who ever made this site more than 30 years later) you may believe what you want....

I prefer SC meaning Super Carrera for the 911 - not sure how to tie that too what the SC means in relation to the 356.
