Prototipo
Have finally installed the Prototipo ('86 911). Liking it a lot - smaller diameter feels, and IMHO looks, great. Yes views of parts of the gauges are blocked, but it is just a different part blocked than with the stock wheel - slight tilt of the head to see the info I need to see, no big deal.
I ordered the Prototipo and hub adapter from Jason @ Warehouse33, no affiliation, but my experience with them was great - Jason responded quickly, prices were great plus 10% discount for Rennlisters. Got a few other odds and ends with that order as well.
I also installed the JWest Engineering Steering Eccentric Adapter (ordered direct from JWest) - offsets the wheel 12mm up and 16mm rearward - closer to driver. The 12mm upward is (apparently) the same offset as the stock wheel in the vertical plane. As a tall (6'4") person, my seat is all the way back and with the stock wheel, my arms were almost straight out. While only 16mm closer, I find it makes a big difference and my arms are in a much more comfortable position. YMMV.

All these beautiful original cars with MOMO steering wheels, what is this, Fast and Furious??!! I can't understand why, especially when the 911S wheel is so classy and period correct...
What am i missing here?

The issue is that those wheels are difficult to get (real ones) and they cost their weight in gold. A lot of the other wheels are also period correct. The simple answer could just be that people love to customize their cars.
