Help value 1987 Targa with 30,000 miles.
My neighbour is downsizing and wants to sell his 1987 Targa. Grey with black interior, all original and only 30,000 miles.
I'm trying to help him value the car as he isn't into the Porsche community and has no clue about value.
I'm a 993 guy so this car is a bit hard for me to value too.
Any idea on the price? The car is located in Canada but could be sent down south no problem, so US and Canadian estimates are both good.
Thanks guys

you stated in Miles not KM .. so the car is a US car or a Canadian car ?
based on Milage alone and noting else i would sa that should fetch a very pretty penny. However some mainatanance is time dependant not miles so records and condition could mean a lot. Also would depend on PPI . But I would say North of 20-25K CAD if it truely has around only 30 K miles . That is just a wild *** guess though and based on nothing other than my own opinion , others who have purchased cars recently might have a better idea. I know the old air cooled cars like ours have been rising pretty decently over th elast year or so . Also remember the US dollar will buy more right now. Priced right that car wont last long if its in good shape.

what a willing buyer and willing seller, neither under the compulsion to sell, decide on value. 30k is low mileage but as owner of '87 coupe myself, there are just so many parts that are 27 yo and need to be replaced. Low mileage doesnt help you with this issue IMO. Mine has 74k on it which is less than 11k per year and I found that it had way too much deferred maintenance. It took me more than a yr to get all the stuff up to par.

Honestly speaking, many of the very low mileage cars have more issues than those driven and maintained (rusted/ breaking head studs etc.) unless really taken care of.
If it is pristine with a good ppi should be a top drawer car.

This car is in Canada with 47000km or 30000 miles. The car is driven every summer and stored the rest of the year.
I'll try and find out more but from my eye, the car is super clean.

I just imported a car from canada to US. Cost of import in an enclosed trailer fully loaded with import/ duty costs were $3500.00. Your asking price needs to take in consideration that your car is a more attractive purchase to a Canadian buyer.

Have your friend call Tim Holt at Holt Motorsports, he loves to buy low mileage G50 Targas. 610 692 7100, holtmotorsports.com, holtmotorsports@yahoo.com
I sold a car to him once and it was a very fair deal, he is a dealer so you won't get top, top dollar but he really appreciates these cars and will pay a fair price, hassle free and he lines up his own transportation.
A lot of his G50s go to Europe for big bucks.

My 44k 86 Targa sold for $34k to Europe 2 years ago. For a G50 (that the market seems to appreciate, independent of personal tastes) with those miles, I'm with Ed thinking $35k would be a solid not-out-of- line retail price.
For the record, my car had a recent engine-out total reseal and comprehensive service "catch up" to the tune of 7k or so. Factor all that in for the car's condition PLUS miles to arrive at good price point.
