Default Track wheels and tires

I've been to the track a couple of times for DE now and I'm hooked. I'm looking to buy dedicated wheels and tires for the track and I've heard different opinions from people.
1st question: Should I stay with the same size stock wheel and tire? I have a 2014 911 Turbo coming in June with 20" wheels with center lock. Some people say I should go with an 18" wheel. Any advise?
2nd: I don't have a trailer so I have to drive to the track. Any recommendations on tires? I heard Michelin Super Sport Cup 2 are great. Any recommendations?

Thanks
Steve

what car? for watercooled cars, 18inch is the preferred size for track... have a look in the racing/de section.

I would suggest you learn the limits of your car with what's on it already ... that's a lot
of car to lose if it ever snaps out on you at the limit with "track" tires !

Just sayin ...

Cheers

--> You are posting in the wrong section of the forum <--

Congrats on your new car! I have a 2008 Turbo and love it on the track. The new 991 Turbo is suposely something very special!

However, I would question the choice of center locking wheels. These wheels should be torqued to something like 700 ft lbf. That's not easily accomplished. Changing wheels on these cars is hence not as straight forward as for cars with 5 nut lugs.

If you stick with center locking, I would suggest you consider 1 pair of wheels since your shop will likely have to be involved in any change. Michelin Super Sports are excellent.

Two events, and moving to R compound already? You've got a lot more to gain and learn by staying on stock tires. Go a season on those before you even dream of changing.

+1. You shouldn't make any performance improvements to your car until you can do 10 straight laps within a second of each other.
