Love the color,
Personally, I only buy Castrol GTX 20/50, but that comes from many years of loving John Force.
Shall we dust off the zinc and ZDDP conversation?

Steve, you know your word is gospel to me, so please tell me what to do. All I know is that it is the only brand I have purchased for nearly 30 years. Currently in my driveway:
'99 Astro @ 253,000 miles from new
'02 E-350 @ 140,000 miles from new
'99 323 @ 85,000 miles from new
'90 Civic @ 180,000 miles inherited after sitting in my grandmother's garage on original tires for more than 15 years without being started.
'88 3,2 @ 81,000 miles with last 20,000+/- in my care.
Plus my last 3 Nissan that I beat the living **** out of that all had about 150,000 on them when I was done with them.
...and a couple other cars not worth noting.
Never had a single oil related issue.
What should I be using?

Many years ago, Bruce Anderson not so discreetly suggested that Castrol oils of the time (I think we're talking the 1980's-1990's) were being blamed for premature cam lob wear in 911 air cooled engines. I've never used Castrol oil for anything after seeing that.

I don't wish to trigger nor will I engage in an oil debate anymore so this is simply my opinion, based on 38+ years of doing 911's. Remember, I have no dog in this hunt and not trying to sell anything to anybody.
Castrol oils, at least the ones sold in North America, should not be used in a 911, 930, or even a 914 engine due to the poor quality of their base stocks, cheap additives, and in some cases, insufficient ZDDP (of which there are many kinds!). Compared to other like products using similar maintenance intervals, I've seen far more deposits and wear inside engines using GTX oils. For me, its very obvious on disassembly.
There are much better choices out there.
Castrol oils used to be an excellent product back in the sixties, however they are now all about cost controls and mass marketing and neither are good for our clientele'.

DB, I didn't wanna hurt your feelings re: Castrol. But if I had any I'd probably only use it in the lawnmower. Even the forklift gets Dextron or Mobil 1.

OK, I appreciate you guys being honest with me. Like I said right up front, my use of Castrol dates back to the mid 1980 when I was a Mopar guy(that is III or IX strikes right there) street racing a '64 Barracuda.
Are we talking about this one?

I had not considered synthetic oil as my car always had a drip. I've since figured out the drip (that became a gush) and no longer have the drip so the synthetic idea can go back on the table.
Rusnak, what do you think I should do?

Go with Brad Penn, Kaboom! Wait there's more..
Just kidding. I had to use the gag pic one more time.
A lot of people like BP, but as I mentioned, I want to be able to buy the stuff locally or if I'm out of town and need to buy a quart, there is something to be said for the convenience of having access to VR-1 at any Autozone.
