Default Wheel Size on 77 Euro 911 Carrera

Hi Guys -

Have a quick question. I checked the archives but did not see a topic similar to my query.

I have a 77 Euro Carrera. I am looking for a set of Fuchs. Car currently has the original Cookie Cutters (15 inch).

In going to the Fuchs, I have to choose between 15 and 16 inch models. If I go with 15's, I can reuse my tires. If I go to 16's, its a forklift upgrade.

So, are 16's worth getting a new set of rubber, in your opinion? Car is a weekend driver, and sees only recreational use (with the exception of the occasional weekday roll out).

In addition, what widths would you recommend (front and back).

I was also looking at some aftermarket 17 inch rims that look just like the ones on C2's.

Someone help me - the indecesion is killing me!

Thanks -

Rob

I just went to 17" on my 80SC...but I have added factory turbo flares front and rear thus my 16" are not wide enough. I have a set of 16" Fuch's, polished with black insets, caps and good rubber all around (goodyears). Rims ar 6X16 front and 7X16 rear. Send me an email if you are interested in them as I'll be listing them on ebay in a few weeks.

Since you state that you have a '77 Euro Carrera, then you should have the "SC" flares on the rear.

IMHO, I like the look of original Fuchs wheels. I would opt for the Fuchs with 7x16 on the front and 8/9x16 on the rear. This would give you a "more modern look", similiar to the SC and 3.2 Carreras. The 9x16 Fuchs get a little pricy, but shop around if you want to go this route.

With 7x16 wheels in the front, you can either go with 205/50x16 or 225/50x16 tires. You may need to roll the front fenders with the 225's; depends on how low you car is set. You can then run 245/45x16 tires on the rear; they fit best on the 9" Fuchs.

The 15" Fuchs will work and you would not need to change tires. The added benefit of 15" wheels is they are relatively cheap and easy to obtain at swap meets, etc.

My '76 C3 originally came w/ 205/50 on 7x15 and 225/50 on 8x15. They worked great particularly for autox

Over the years I have tried various combinations of 7 or 8 & 8 or 9 x16 w/ 205/55 or 225/50 front and 225/50 or 245/45 rear. The best of these was 7 & 9 w/ 205/55 & 245/45x16, these are better for street/track use but not as good for autox

If you decide to get more involved w/ track stuff the 17s are worth it. Currently using 235/45 & 275/40 on 8 & 9.5x17. Future plans are 235/40 & either 265/35 or 275/35 on the same rims.
