Default Fast Blinking Turn Signal

Right turn signal on and the tachometer turn signal flashes at double speed.

Front and rear turn signal bulbs work perfectly but flash at double speed.

What's up?

Typically, on American cars, it was the flasher relay failing that causes this.

Thanks...I'll try a new one.

What is the purpose of the oxygen sensor relay? While looking for a turn signal relay, I saw the O2 sensor relay for 84-89. I have an 88 but there is no indicator on my car to change the sensor. Does this tie into the fuel control solution?

A little more info now that I am home:

Two filaments in the front turn signal indicator. One of the filaments comes on with the parking lights. The other comes on to blink.

On the left side, when you throw the turn signal, the parking light filament stays on and the blinker filament flashes at normal speed like it is supposed to.

On the right side, when you throw the turn signal, the parking light filament turns off and the blinker filament flashes at double speed. Seems that something is signaling the right front parking light filament to turn off when the blinker is on thus reducing the current draw and doubling the blinker rate indicating a problem.

The rear left and right blinker lights (single filament) and parking lights work fine.

Tried swapping bulbs and same effect and did some cleaning of the contacts.

Does this confirm the relay or something else?

Thanks!

In my experience YMMV when the bulb in the dash flashes fast or out of sync it's signaling a faulty
bulb, try a different double filament and make sure the contacts aren't crossing somehow ..Bert

I tried swapping bulbs and even tried some new ones. No change.

Went in and checked and bent the contacts and the internals all look good. Bottom line, the parking signal filament never comes on now, just the turn signal filament.

Try tweaking the contacts some more. I had the same problem with my 996. Thought it was the bulb, replaced it, and same problem. I prodded around at the contacts to bend them a bit, took a few tries, works fine now.

Did some more tweaking and checked some voltages. No voltage going to the running light contact and now the left side isn't working as well after trying to work the contacts.

Looks like it's time to get some new ones after 27 years.

It doesn't sound to me like the relay is the problem, since the blinker was working. The parking lights plug into the back of the signal lights. I would have swaped the right side over to the left temporarily, or use a test light to try to trace the problem down. At this point, you might as well test the signal relay, which is behind the fuel gauge. But it's really hard to reach with test leads. You might need to make longer leads.

You guys are killing me with all the suspense here.

I've got fast blinking turn indicators too. I assumed it was because the 911R bulbs were of a higher wattage than the standard bulbs creating a faster running relay or some such.

Now I'm thinking its because I touched terminals together that didn't belong together creating a short that burned a fuse and now perhaps also burned up the blinker thingermabob.

Anyone?

Guessing this is it: 914.618.303.11

I would take a look at the wiring diagram and see if you can find a capacitor. That would need to be matched to the load. Since you eliminated some bulbs such as the side marke bulb, you may need to change the capacitor. I would think that the relay is there to protect the switch, and since your blinkers work, you have no burned out fuses or relays.
